Home Sweet Whitemarsh Island

During mine & Kenny's "relaxing" weekend in Savannah we house hunted the entire time, so really there was no relaxing. We began with the idea that living as close to his school as possible and sticking to the rent we currently pay in Carrollton would be best. We were soon finding ourselves rethinking that. Savannah's cost of living is hirer than Carrollton, so finding a house within the price range we currently pay would get us into something that was in pretty much the same state as our current home:

Ok, so maybe there weren't holes in the floors of places we were looking at; but, they were older homes with way old school bathrooms, or no dishwasher, and so on. Not to mention the traffic and congestion in the heart of Savannah and the Southside was horrific. So, with a new outlook we decided that we might have to pay more and move further out to get exactly what we wanted:
  • Garage
  • Fenced yard
  • Updated bathrooms and kitchen
  • 2 bed/2 bath
  • Space for an office
  • Laundry area
And, voila! Saturday we went searching on our own instead of using a real estate company as we had the day before. We began writing down numbers and cold calling to take a look at some places. We looked at two on Whitemarsh Island, which is about a 15 minute commute to the Historic District, Southside where Kenny's school is located, and 15 minutes the opposite direction to Tybee Island - so pretty much as central you can get AND it's not in the middle of all the congestion. Instead it's on a laid back island so we can escape all the tourists and traffic :)

What we found was perfect! A 1980's something home, with brand new ceramic tile floors in the ENTIRE house, dining room, breakfast nook, pantry, laundry, garage, fenced in yard, a tool shed, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms that are updated, vaulted ceilings, and energy efficient double paned windows to help with utility costs! We thought it was too good to be true because the landlord had already gotten so much interest. But, we must have made a good impression because he's working with us on the payments and our lease begins May 1st. Home Sweet Whitemarsh Island, here we come!

We didn't think there was any way we would end up getting to move to this house so, unfortunately, there aren't any pictures. As soon as we move I'll be sure to post them!
